What is the QUEER EXPRESSION Film and Theater Festival?
OSA's QUEER EXPRESSION (QE) program celebrates both films and plays, offering a diverse array of performances, in person screenings, and streaming on-line films throughout the year
QE Theater Fest 2024-25:
Running from September 13 to June, our theater season will include four full productions of plays, from cutting edge to classic. On occasion there are readings of new works, historic gay plays. The season of plays will be announced soon.
QE Film Fest:
This hybrid festival runs throughout the year has three components for both in-person and streaming events.
*QE Best of the Fest showcases brand-new films—shorts, mid-length, and features—on a quarterly basis - in programs that can be streamed from anywhere.
**QIS programs highlight acclaimed international shorts from film festivals around the globe. These streaming programs can be viewed from anywhere.
***Additionally, live screenings of new queer features are held at FACETS in Lincoln Park on the last Wednesday of each month from January through June.

AS YOU ARE, Directed by Daisy Freeman, USA 15 minutes
When an interabled queer couple spends the night together for the first time, they navigate the power of loving someone else through healing their relationships with their own bodies.
CRACKS WILL COME, directed by Daniel Mateo Vallejo, Columbia, 18 minutes
Keisi wakes up one morning with an obsession to escape to the pristine nature that has been haunting her lately.
JIA Directed by Vee Shee, Australia, 15 minutes
Ming, a grieving Chinese mother, arrives in Australia to embark on a road trip with a young Caucasian man, Eric to remember her late son. But she soon discovers that Eric was in a romantic relationship with her son, which clashes with her conservative values.
PARTNER, Directed by Trupil Patil, India, 13 minutes
For years Amit has kept his relationship with Abhay, a secret from his mom. After being given an ultimatum by Abhay, he finally musters courage to come out to her but is totally unsure how she will face his truth!

QUEEER EXPRESSION announces the QE BEST OF THE FEST - six short and two mid length films streaming in two online programs in July. QUEER EXPRESSION is a fest of queer theater and films sponsored by Chicago non profit Open Space Arts.
QE BEST OF FEST Summer Shorts streams July 3 to 16, and features a program of five films: CLAUDE, KORDOVERA 22, OWEN, RAM (Like the Verb), THE ABSENCE OF EVIE, and RAMBLINGS OF A MIDDLE AGED DRAG QUEEN.

Her childhood stuffed bunny, Claude, watches his owner navigate her turbulent love life as an adult trans-woman.
KORDOVERA 22, directed by Gal Primack Najari, Israel, 18 minutes
Two men meet through a screen and struggle to get closer in an impossible pre-written reality
OWEN, directed by John B. Gondos, United States, 14 minutes
In this sci-fi comedy, a woman visits a sex shop to relieve stress and accidentally gets a robot for gay men. The robot assumes the woman is male, while she assumes it's straight, leading to hilarious misunderstandings.
RAM (Like the Verb), directed by Chance Calloway, United States, 8 minutes
During the casting process for a reality series, an openly gay Asian actor reconciles his sexuality with his career struggles. Rotoscoped with example-based synthesis technology.
RAMBLINGS OF MIDDLE AGED DRAG QUEEN, directed by Aharon Jinjihashvili, Canada, 10 minutes
A prying journalism student interviews a world-wearied drag queen about her life and career.
THE ABSENCE OF EVIE, directed by Louis Monahan, United States, 11 minutes
When Lanea, a recent college graduate, faces the death of a childhood friend, she must reveal to her girlfriend how deep their friendship truly was.
QE BEST OF FEST Summer Mid Length Films streams July 17 to 30 and includes the films COFFEE GRAPEFRUIT CACAO and PARKER AND THE GREEN DRESS.

A queer teen is torn between prom dreams and the fear of disappointing her grandmother. A chance encounter with an elderly woman, who harbors her own hidden truth, sparks a journey of mutual discovery. Can they embrace their truths before time slips away?
Access to each QE BEST OF THE FEST program is $12.00 for the streamed or in-person screenings. Films are not geo blocked, and can be screened from anywhere.
