PLAN YOUR VISIT: TRANSPORT, PARKING, FOOD & NEIGHBORHOOD

 TRAVEL AND PARKING

Join us in Uptown—getting to Open Space Arts is easy, whether you’re coming from across the city or just around the corner. We’re located at 1411 W Wilson Ave, just east of Clark Street, and steps from the 22 Clark bus. The Wilson Red Line station is about a five-block walk away, making us an easy trip from anywhere in Chicago.

Arriving by bike or scooter? You’ll find racks and street fixtures along Wilson, so you can roll right up and head inside.

Free street parking is often available on Wilson and nearby side streets. Please note that the parking spaces on Wilson closest to Clark Street (on both the north and south sides) are now paid parking only.

Parking on Clark Street is more limited than it used to be due to the new bike lanes, so be sure to check signage and your parking position carefully. Parking on Clark Street is free on Sundays.

FOOD AND DRINK

Make a night (or afternoon) of it—Uptown has some great spots just steps from the theater.

TIZTAL CAFE (4631 N Clark St) is a warm, welcoming choice for breakfast or lunch if you’re coming to a matinee. They close at 3 PM.

CREMA SHOP (1127 W Wilson Ave) is perfect for coffee, tea, or a quick bite—especially on Sundays. If you’re joining us for an evening performance, they’ll already be closed.

MAX’S PLACE (4626 N Clark St) is a go-to for a drink before or after—easy, unpretentious, and right in the neighborhood.

UPTOWN TAPROOM (1265 W Wilson Ave) is another favorite nearby for drinks and food, with a lively atmosphere and a kitchen that now stays open until 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.

EXPLORE THE HISTORIC DOVER STREET DISTRICT

Just nearby, the Dover Street District offers a glimpse of Uptown’s residential history. The district includes Dover and Beacon from Lawrence south to Sunnyside. The neighborhood is known for its handsome residential buildings, generous lot sizes, and deep setbacks. Developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it reflects the growth of what was then the Sheridan Drive Subdivision, later part of the Sheridan Park neighborhood within Uptown. Its mix of single-family homes, two- and three-flats, and small apartment buildings gives the area a distinctly residential, almost suburban character within the city.
