Mr. Parker delves into the life of Terry Parker, a middle-aged gay man navigating grief after the loss of his partner of 30 years. Following a night of heavy drinking, Terry finds himself with Justin, a younger man with a contrasting worldview. Together, they embark on a journey of connection and self-discovery, confronting loneliness and adapting to the shifting social dynamics of contemporary America.
Character: Justin
Age: 28, any ethnicity, male
Bartender/Uber driver, bisexual father of a young son.
Character Traits: Complex, grounded, and empathetic. Justin balances his own challenges while becoming a crucial part of another’s journey toward self-discovery.
Special Notes: This role includes a shirtless scene with implied nudity. An intimacy coordinator will ensure a safe and respectful process.
Character: Terrence
Aged 50 to 55 years old, any ethnicity, male. Writer. Recently widowed after a 20-year marriage to his husband. Trying to move forward despite the pressures of being suddenly single, middle-aged, and gay. Upscale and confident. A novelist with a strong wit.
Note: The role of Cassandra has been precast.

Open Space Arts seeks costume, scenic, and sound designers for our 2024-25 season. OSA is a classic Chicago storefront that seats 20 in a flexible production hall. Shows generally rehearse for 3 weeks and have a three week run. Most scripts have 2 to 5 actors, and are a part of our Arts Judaica or Queer Expression programs.

Open Space Arts seeks non-Equity stage managers for our 2024-25 Queer Expression Season, which range form cutting edge to classics. Up first is LIGHT SWITCH by Dave Osmundsen, directed by Michael D Graham, which starts rehearsal in August and runs Sept 12 to Oct 13. Spanning twenty years, "Light Switch" follows the story of Henry, an autistic gay man with a passion for 19th century British literature, and his quest for love and acceptance.
